The Alleghany County Board of Commissioners is considering a plan to create a new recreation department, which could encompass oversight of the county's recreation needs.
At Monday night's meeting, the commissioners heard a report from County Manager Don Adams concerning the fairgrounds. The Alleghany Recreation Commission will be studied at the next meeting, said Adams. The county funds three programs, the fairgrounds, the recreation commission and Alleghany Wellness Inc. All three are currently operated by non-profit boards.
According to Adams' report, "One of the department's primary focuses
will be to take on the day-to-day operation burdens."
