The Alleghany Quilters' Guild and the New River Shrine Club are teaming up for a weekend of events at the Alleghany County Fairgrounds.
The Alleghany Quilters' Guild will be holding its seventh-annual quilt show, beginning this Friday from noon until 6 p.m. and continuing Saturday from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. in the Emerson Black Exhibition Building. The show is open to the public and admission is free. Meanwhile, the Shrine club's 24th annual specialty vehicle show is set for Saturday in the fairgrounds. General admission for the event is $5, with free admission for children under 12 accompanied by a paid adult.
The specialty vehicle show will feature food, refreshments, live entertainment and a charity auction. As an added attraction, Dale Earnhardt's Winston Cup Race Car will be on display.
Gates will open at 8 a.m. and the entry deadline is noon Saturday. Judging will begin at 1 p.m., with awards presented to the winners at 4:30 p.m.
Also in conjunction with the show will be a barbecue dinner at 6 p.m.
(free for car show participants) followed by ‘cruising' Main Street.
