Clarence Crouse was recently named the new director of Alleghany Connections.
Ed Adams, chairman of the Alleghany Connections board of directors, said the board hired Crouse in late May for the part-time director position. Crouse, a retired educator, served in numerous positions with the Alleghany County school system, including superintendent and Sparta School principal. He was elected last year to a seat on the Alleghany County Board of Education.
"We're delighted to have him," said Adams. "He's well-qualified by education and experience."
Said Crouse, "I am extremely excited about the opportunity to be actively involved again with some of our young people, their parents and our community."
He replaces Christine Henderson as director.
Connections is a Governor's One-on-One Volunteer Program similar to Big Brothers/Big Sisters organizations in other communities. Each adult volunteer agrees to spend about two hours a week with a school-age child, serving as a positive role model.
Crouse said Alleghany Connections needs more caring adults to
volunteer. Anyone interested may contact him at 372-5350 for more
information.
