The fifth-annual Alleghany County Rescue Squad Junior Rodeo helped raise about $3,500 for the local volunteer organization. Attendance was down from years past, said Jackie Duncan, treasurer for the squad. "We had fewer than 500 people both nights," she said, noting that most years twice that many or more attend.

Atwell is originally from Australia. The next Junior Rodeo circuit event will be July 20 at 2 p.m. at Palomino Mountain Ranch in Low Gap.
