Charge filed after knife attack here

A Sparta man has been charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury after a stabbing took place at his home on Farmers Fish Camp Road. Charged in the crime is 25-year-old Francisco Gordillo.

The victim, 42-year-old Lisandro Nocumendi, was listed in critical condition at N.C. Baptist Hospital Saturday, but his condition was upgraded to stable by presstime Tuesday. The two men shared the house on Farmers Fish Camp Road, according to a report by Det. Ricky Lyall of the Alleghany County Sheriff's Department. The report said Nocumendi was stabbed in the upper left chest with a folding knife. The weapon was not recovered.

The incident was reported to authorities when the victim arrived at the hospital. The suspect was later found and arrested at the apartment of his brother, Rodolfo Hernandez, at Miles Apartments in Sparta. The only known witness to the event was Gordillo's girlfriend, Jennifer Andrade, the report stated.

Gordillo was held on a $50,000 secured bond in the Alleghany County Jail pending a court appearance on July 8.
