Construction deadlines at Alleghany Memorial Hospital were delayed after an Elkin plumbing contractor's business went belly up. Holcomb Brothers subcontracted plumbing work on the job but announced on April 30 that workers from that company would not return to the job due to the business' closing.
"It has delayed us somewhat, probably about four to six weeks," said AMH Maintenance Director Richard Nichols, who has the task of coordinating between the contractor and the hospital. "We're still looking at our scheduling now to try and figure out where we are at." Ground work on the project started last summer and construction began last October, Nichols said.
Roger's Builders of Charlotte is the main contractor on the job.
Holcomb had a performance bond and another contractor has since been
hired to take over the work — Tri-Med Mechanical of Charlotte was
selected to finish the job and has hired a number of former Holcomb
employees. Tri-Med arrived on the job in mid May.
