Members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 7034 fire a salute to their fallen counterparts during a Memorial Day ceremony held last Sunday afternoon on the Alleghany County Courthouse lawn. VFW officers placed a wreath of remembrance at the monument there, along with flowers symbolizing purity, devotion and eternity.
The ceremony was held June 1 rather than during Memorial Day weekend because of a
conflict with a VFW district meeting. However, that made it closer to
May 30, the date Memorial Day was originally celebrated.
