Lawnmower race moved to June 14

The second-annual CarQuest Spring Mow Down was postponed Saturday morning due to inclement weather.

Alleghany Lawnmower Racing Association Chair Walt Greene made the call after looking over the track's condition and conferring with representatives of the co-sponsoring Alleghany Fair Committee. The race has been rescheduled for June 14 at 7 p.m.

As for last Saturday, lengthy periods of rain up until race day and on the morning of the scheduled event caused the soil track not to be in race-worthy condition.

More than 60 mowers are scheduled to compete in the event, which serves as a fundraiser for the Alleghany County Fair and the Alleghany County Fairgrounds.

Racers will be competing in 10 different divisions and trophies will be awarded for first, second and third place finishers. For more information or to register to compete, visit CarQuest or call 372-5597.
