A local foundation is accepting applications for its first-ever open grant award.
According to a news release, the Alleghany County Community Foundation (ACCF) will award a single grant of $500 for philanthropic purposes to benefit the communities of the county. That can involve the arts, the environment, health, human services, education, religion, civic affairs, cultural preservation and/or other fields.
"The only real criteria is that it's a not-for-profit organization," said Kevin Wright, chairman of ACCF. "Beyond that we will meet and try to see where the $500 will do the most good."
The grant is from the income of the Alleghany Opportunity Fund, one of eight endowment funds under ACCF's auspices.
An affiliate of the North Carolina Community Foundation, ACCF was
established in 1995. Wright said, "We've received some large donations
in the last couple of years.
