Local firemen and rescue workers respond to a staged car crash scene in the parking lot of the former Spring Ford plant near Alleghany High School (above) on April 25. AHS students witnessed the demonstration of the aftermath of a drunk driving incident as part of the Prom Promise program. Kim Hash, the passenger shown, played the part of the "fatality."

In the photo at left, Sparta Police Officer Jason Beck "arrests" Mitchell Reedy following another part of the enactment, in which Reedy failed a field sobriety test including a breathalyzer exam. All four students who participated in the demonstration (Craig Toliver was the other driver; Brandi Pruitt was the other passenger) are also members of the Junior Rescue Squad. Speakers Donny Brown, also a Sparta police officer, and Jane McCall, who lost two children to automobile accidents, encouraged students to have a safe prom May 3.
