At left, Children scramble for plastic eggs just outside Sparta School April 17. Two kindergarten classes participated in the lunchtime Easter egg hunt. County public schools dismissed early on Good Friday but were back in session Monday, which was originally scheduled as a holiday but used as a makeup day for closing due to wintry weather.
In the photo at right, a cross draped
with a purple sash and white tunic overlooks N.C. 18 from in front of
Laurel Springs Baptist Church on Easter Sunday morning April 20. The
garments represent those associated with the trial and crucifixion of
Christ. The church was the site of one of numerous sunrise worship
services held in the county last Sunday.
