Alleghany Memorial Hospital's new general surgeon's résumé includes training and experience in five states and a total of three continents.
Dr. Deepak Midha was already considering settling in the North Carolina mountains, possibly as a retirement location, when the opportunity at AMH arose. "This is as pretty as any (area) I have seen," he said. "I'm very happy to be here."
Midha officially joined the hospital staff early this month. He replaced Dr. James Holleman, who left last November.
"A lot of people don't know there's a surgeon in town," Midha said. "Once people know, they might give us a chance, and we hope we can keep them....My goal is to provide services good enough that people wouldn't want to go down the mountain to any other place."
He is originally from India, where he earned his medical and surgery
degrees from Patna University. He was assistant surgeon at the Bokaro
General Hospital in Bokaro Steel City, India.
