At right, "McGruff the Crime Dog" (Pam Sizemore) cautions children about being careful of strangers, along with other safety issues, during a visit to Gap Civil Head Start April 7. In the photo at left, children enjoy a puppet show, including this scene where Peter Rabbit experiences the wrath of Mr. McGregor. The narrator is Wanda Smith, while the puppeteers are Harriet Meinecke and Tabatha Spurlin, all from the Education Station.
The visits by McGruff and the puppets to local preschools and day care facilities were part of "The Week of the Young
Child," organized by the Alleghany Partnership for Children (PFC).
Angie Wagoner, the PFC's director of child care resources, said the
week was designated to celebrate young children and their families.
