Several local residents are serving in Iraqi war

A number of men and women currently deployed with the armed services for the war with Iraq have direct ties to Alleghany County. At least six families in the county have sent close family members to serve their country overseas.

Included (units listed where possible) are Capt. Chris Busic of the Army's 227th Transportation Company; Sgt. Brady Carpenter of the Marine Corps Third Battalion, Second Marine Division; Sgt. Abigail Phelps, an Army MP (Military Police); Lance Cpl. Josh Evans, with the Marines Combat

A package from home...

Items are being gathered for Alleghany residents stationed overseas during the Iraqi war and you can help. The deadline to drop off items is April 18.

Items wanted:

  • Skittles/other hard candy
  • Powdered Gatorade
  • Power Bars
  • Sunblock and Chap-Stick
  • Baby wipes/hygiene items
  • Personal letters/cards

    Drop-off Point:
    Take items for soldiers in the current war, in sealed original packages, to the Alleghany School Board Office on Peachtree Street prior to the deadline date.
