Local students present patriotic program

With America on the brink of war, and with the state and nation facing a teacher shortage, children and other local residents showed their support for America, as a potential future teacher got her feet wet working with a troupe of second graders. Kids_dancing__2_mail.jpg (84K)

The patriotic variety program "Second Graders Celebrate America," presented March 13 at the Sparta School auditorium, was also the product of Alleghany High School student Jana Wyatt's senior project. Veterans participated in the program, as members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 7034 presented the colors near the beginning of the event.

A Patriotic Salute — In the photo at left, Sparta School pupils perform a dance routine to "R-O-C-K in the U.S.A." as part of the "Second Graders Celebrate America" program last week at the school's auditorium. The program also included singing and poetry, as the 45 children offered a show of support for their nation as it girded up for war.
