Alleghany Wellness Center Inc. is asking the county to help with operating expenses at the center, which is likely to be under construction as soon as April 1.

The request came from Jack Martin, who said the multi-use facility should be called the Wellness and Recreation Center because of its many offerings.

In addition to the center's 25-meter swimming pool, indoor walking track and fitness center, the facility will feature a kitchen, office space, a child watch area, a resource library, massage room, showers and locker rooms, a new drawing of the center shows. The new pool design depicts an indoor/outdoor pool with a cover, Martin said. In addition, he pointed out that an additional 10 acres of land is also available for outdoor recreation, possible future development and walking trails.

The second phase of the project calls for the construction of a gymnasium.

According to a timetable provided by the group, the center is requesting that a director of recreation be hired as soon as May of this year.
