The Sparta Revitalization Committee agreed last week to continue discussions about long-range planning for appearance improvements downtown.
Two years ago, the Sparta Town Council began appropriating $6,000 per year for such improvements, to be administered by the SRC. The committee used the first year of the funding for a series of matching grants to downtown property owners for storefront-betterment projects in 2001.
At its November 2002 meeting, the SRC voted to begin developing a long-range plan for using the annual allotment. Downtown lighting was a prominent suggested area of focus.
During the Jan. 13 meeting, the committee agreed to hold a planning session regarding long-range efforts. That session is set for Jan. 28 at 5:30 p.m. at the Alleghany County Chamber of Commerce meeting room, the same location as the SRC's regular monthly meetings.
