Work is going generally well on Alleghany County's new technology/educational/business complex.
"It's progressing fairly well," said County Manager Don Adams of the renovation/construction at the former Bassett Walker building on Atwood Street. Adams is also project manager for the undertaking.
Guttering is laid, and the roof has been laid down. "The roof isn't finished, but the building is dried in," Adams said. About one-third of the sheet rock is up. Heat and air ducts and conduits for electrical lines are being run.
The building's solarium, which will function as the break room for Wilkes Community College's Alleghany campus, is also up.
In addition to WCC-A, the building will also house the Blue Ridge Business Development Center (BDC, a.k.a. Blue Ridge Telecenter) and Alleghany JobLink.
The community college campus and JobLink are currently underway. While quite a bit of work remains to be done on the future
location of the Blue Ridge Business Development Center, progress is
showing.
