Local school officials earlier this month continued discussing possible solutions to what is probably Alleghany County's worst regularly occurring traffic problem — the backup of automobiles lined up for afternoon dismissal time at Sparta Elementary School.
Several of the proposals for alleviating the congestion — rerouting traffic, constructing new road lanes and parking space — would necessitate the cooperation of local and/or state officials.
The discussion was part of the Alleghany County Board of Education's Dec. 11 meeting, during which there was general agreement that rectifying the problem would likely take place gradually, not immediately.
Board members agreed by consensus that traffic should be right-turn only for traffic coming from the east end of the school.
