Several representatives of Martin Marietta Composites (MMC) and parent company Martin Marietta Materials (MMM) were in attendance last week at an event held to welcome the new corporate citizen to the county.
The new plant, operated under the flag of Martin Marietta Composites, is slated to produce composite bridge decks, truck trailers and other similar materials.
The company has installed 18 composite bridge decks and is considered a world leader in that market.
Among those on hand at the event were Grant Godwin, MMC vice president; Phil Sipling, MMM executive vice president; Dennis Skaradzinski, MMC director of engineering and manufacturing; and John Long, MMM vice president of governmental affairs.
Also at the event were numerous town and county officials, representatives of Skyline and Blue Ridge Electric membership corporations, State Sen. Virginia Foxx and Rep. Jim Harrell, representatives of AdvantageWest, the N.C. Department of Commerce and other state and regional officials.
Prior to the event, Godwin said the company plans to start up slowly
and hike employment as orders increase.
