A former Democratic party leader in the county and well-known local figure died on Nov. 25 at the age of 92. George T. Finney died at Alleghany Memorial Hospital in Sparta.
He was born in Alleghany County on July 28, 1910 to Joseph Thomas and
Emma Rotenberry Finney and worked in the building construction business
for more than 30 years. He was a 50-year member and past master of the
Piney Creek Masonic Lodge No. 432 and a past director of the Alleghany
County Board of Elections.
