The Alleghany Council on Aging is offering a line dance class on Thursday evenings at the Alleghany Senior Citizens Center. The class is not limited to senior citizens, said Janis Fender, director of the council on aging. "It's for anybody; all ages, from 12 and up, are encouraged and welcome."
The line dance class began in October. Beginners are encouraged to join. Individual attention is available, and each class focuses on introducing a different line dance, so that even though the class has been in progress a few weeks, new learners can readily join in.
Paul Dellinger, who is also human resources manager at Pioneer Eclipse,
teaches the class. "Teaching and training comes naturally to me in my
job," he said. "I like dancing. I've been told that I catch on quick."
Dellinger said he has been dancing off and on for many years, including
shag dancing to beach music. He attends dances of organizations in
Charlotte and Newton on weekends; "I get a lot of practice." He is
president of one of those groups, the Highlighters Club, a Charlotte-based
singles organization.
