FLYING TREES?

At right, a chopper from O'Brien Helicopters drops off a bundle of Christmas trees at Smokey Holler Tree Farm in Laurel Springs last week.

Smokey Holler bought trees from Roger and Wanda Mathis' tree farm, and the helicopter was hired to move them from the east to the west side of N.C. 18.

In the photo at left, the chopper goes into the tree field to pick up another load. The helicopter was carrying about five trees, attached to a cable-type rig beneath its underbelly, every time it travelled from the field to the drop-off point.
