Weddens enjoy country life

Jay and Marie Wedden did not intend to open a bed-&-breakfast when they first moved to Alleghany from Miami, Fla. two years ago.

"We decided it was time for a shift in life," Jay Wedden said. "We just needed a change from the big city."

However, his background as an outdoorsman and horticulturist, and hers in the travel/tourism/hospitality industry — plus the fact that they both like being around people — have served them well in turning the 80-year-old farm property on Brookfield Road near Sparta into a bed-&-breakfast as well as a home. "It's just too big and too nice to keep to ourselves," he said.

Marie Wedden remarked, "I think I'm finally doing what I enjoy doing."
