Town seeks help with seal design

The Town of Sparta is seeking help from those with artistic inclinations to come up with a logo for the town.

Town Council member John Brady has announced details of the contest to design a town seal.

With the town's move this year to its new Town Hall (the former Blue Ridge Electric Membership Corporation building), council members have discussed producing a seal. Brady agreed to head up the effort to develop the contest guidelines.

He said the design must be original and circular in format, submitted within a 12-inch diameter circular framework, capable of being enlarged or reduced.

The design should have no more than five different colors, excluding the black outline.

It must include the name "Sparta" and should be reflective of the town's past, present and future.

Historical information is available from the town office.

The contest is open to anyone of any age. The entrant's name and phone number should be on the back of the entry.

Entries should be turned in to the town office. Deadline is Nov. 27 (the day before Thanksgiving Day) at 3 p.m.

A $100 first prize will be awarded. Second and third prizes have not yet been set.

The telephone number for the town office is 372-4257.
