Officials trying to market the former Bristol Compressors building have hosted some lookers, but so far no takers.
Bristol, at one time Alleghany County's largest employer, announced just over a year ago that it would close. Workers were released in phases, with the final shutdown occurring Sept. 12.
Bristol and its parent company, York International Corporation, still own the Bristol building. "We've certainly had a lot of interest, but nothing has been concluded at this time," said Dennis Custance, spokesman for Bristol.
Those who expressed serious interest in the building have been primarily manufacturing companies, Custance added. Some have examined the building from a technical perspective, looking at its power and air capabilities. County Manager Don Adams said he could not give specifics, but representatives of some companies have visited the building within the last month.
"That is a high-quality building, and that has created some interest," Adams said. "If you're trying to look at positives — and I know it's tough to look at positives with the layoffs — that building is one of the best buildings in the state."
