About 1,400 people were on hand Saturday in Sparta to witness the ninth-annual Del Reeves Homecoming Show.

Local show organizer J.D. Higgins said he is pleased with the attendance numbers for the Saturday show, which features two performance times — one at 2 p.m. and one at 8 p.m. The second show typically draws a larger crowd than the first, but this year was apparently the opposite.

"We weren't as full as usual for the second show, but we only had a few empty seats during the early show," Higgins commented. "Part of the reason for the lower attendance at the second show might have been the rain. People don't turn out as good when it rains."

Higgins said tickets for the show were mailed to Virginia, West Virginia, Tennessee and Maryland.

In addition to Reeves, the show featured Mel McDaniel and his band ‘Oklahoma Wind' and Big Country Bluegrass, along with Higgins and other local performers.
