Final election count holds no surprises

The final election results for Alleghany County held few surprises, with all totals in the races remaining constant after final totals were released last Friday.

The Sept. 10 primary results were printed in last week's edition, however, the results were only a preliminary report until after they were certified by the board of elections on Friday.

The general election is scheduled for Nov. 5.

As for last Tuesday's election, Director of Elections Karen K. Fender said that she had noted a few problems, mainly from voters who failed to notice their polling place (place to vote) had changed.

"We had some folks who were moved from one precinct to another because of 911 addressing and the new state system," said Fender. "Even though we sent out cards to everyone, some people just failed to notice that the polling place had changed. I think some people even discarded the notice without looking at it."
