School board lauds recent test scores

School officials heralded the results of vocational and computer-skills tests earlier this month.

Among the state's school systems, Alleghany had the second-highest percentage of students passing the vocational examination. In the computer skills tests, Alleghany had at least 89 percent of pupils passing in each grade and was tied for the top spot in the state for 12th grade.

The results were discussed during the Sept. 4 meeting of the Alleghany County Board of Education, held the week before the ABCs results were released by the N.C. Department of Public Instruction.
