The Alleghany News election coverage will be printed next week, Sept. 5, in the issue directly preceding the Sept. 10 primary.
All candidates were sent a questionnaire requesting their views. A listing of the views of those who responded, as well as the names of those who did not, will appear in next week's edition. A sample of the primary ballots will also be printed.
Reverse Alphabet
The ballots for the upcoming Sept. 10 primary election will be in reverse alphabetical order this year for the first time ever.
In years past, candidates were always listed in alphabetical order.
However, some candidates have claimed that gave their opponents an advantage. Specifically, those with last names further down the alphabet were typically listed further down in the list of choices on the ballot. The order to reverse the ballot order was not a local decision, rather, it was handed down by the state board of elections.
