The Alleghany County Chamber of Commerce is gettting ready to move into its new home on Main Street next week.

The chamber is assuming the former town office building on South Main Street in Sparta and is vacating a portion of the former Cash and Carry building (currently housing Wilkes Community College).

"We are going to make the transition the week of Labor Day," said Leann Murray, chamber executive director. "We'll be starting on that Monday — we're already working on getting services moved and lining up our plans to move stuff."

The chamber plans to be fully open for business in the new location by Sept. 9. The move will begin on Sept. 3 and should be complete by Sept. 6. However, the current office should remain open until the new office is fully functional. "The chamber will still have a person in the office during regular hours if at all possible," said Murray.

As for the new location, Murray said she is pleased to be going closer to the heart of downtown.

"We are very excited about being in the new location," she said. "We hope that our location there helps increase opportunities for foot traffic in the downtown area.
