Vets honored for D-Day service

Seven local veterans were recently given certificates of appreciation from the French government for their help in freeing that country from Nazi occupation. All seven of the men were present during the D-Day invasion of Normandy. Honored were Cleo Reeves, Ernest Edwards, Paul Brooks, Amon Edwards, Oscar "Doc" Evans, Clay Nichols and Odell Crouse.

The local Veterans of Foreign Wars post was filled with family members, friends and other supporters.

U.S. Congressman Richard Burr was on hand to present the certificates on behalf of France.
