Ready or not, back-to-school time is here.
The 2002-03 school year at Alleghany County Schools begins this Tuesday, Aug. 6 with a half-day of classes. Pupils will attend through lunchtime, with teachers attending a county-wide meeting in the afternoon. The next day, Aug. 7, is the first full day of school.
The school year is scheduled to end the same way, with a half-day for
pupils, on May 21, 2003. As often happens, the end-of-school date can
later be adjusted because of days missed due to inclement weather.
Teachers were to be on the job by today, Thursday, Aug. 1, which is a
mandatory teacher workday. Many teachers have already been at work,
however, preparing their classrooms and lessons.
