Pickers and fans of bluegrass and old time music will gather in Sparta this Friday and Saturday, July 19 and 20, for the eighth annual Alleghany County Fiddler's Convention. It will be held at the Justice Carlisle Higgins Agricultural Fairgrounds on U.S. 21 north in Sparta.
A host of musicians and spectators are expected for this year's event, said Trever Nichols, head of the convention for the Sparta-Alleghany Volunteer Fire Department. "I've gotten a lot of calls from people wanting information and brochures," he said. "There's four or five messages on my answering machine every evening when I get home."
The convention will have competition for junior and senior bands and individuals in old time and bluegrass. Visit the convention website at http://www.ls.net/~fiddler.
