After months of negotiations and disagreement among contractors and insurance companies, the Alleghany County Board of Education has made it official: it is suing the plumbing contractor to recover the cost of replacing the floor in the new Alleghany High School gymnasium. The lawsuit complaint was filed Monday afternoon at the Alleghany County Courthouse. It names Tony Greene, owner of T. Greene Plumbing Company (also known as T. Greene Electrical & Plumbing), and Gulf Insurance Company as defendants.

T. Greene was the plumbing contractor for recent additions and renovations to AHS, Glade Creek Elementary School and Piney Creek Elementary School, including the high school's new east wing, which consists of the new gym as well as classrooms. The classroom portion of that building was opened in August 2001, at the beginning of the school year. The gym remained closed after the floor was found damaged due to a water heater leak.
