About 25 area residents participated in the Alleghany Wellness Center's "Walk for Wellness Day," and over 160 were on hand for the "Be Happy, Be Healthy Celebration" that followed last Saturday at the Sparta United Methodist Church.
Alleghany Wellness Center board member Scott Maxwell said that $240 was raised through the walk. About 50 people walked in the same event last year.
"We're happy with the people who did walk," Maxwell commented. "I think they had a good time."
The turnout for the "Be Happy, Be Healthy Celebration" was considerably greater, as kids and adults tried a variety of fun events and visited the many informative stations set up around the church's parking lot."
Alleghany Wellness Center representative Heather Andrews said, "We were hoping to have 100 to 120 (for the "Be Happy, Be Healthy Celebration), so I think it was a very good turnout."
The 5K walk began and ended at the Sparta United Methodist Church. Participants made a $10 donation for which they each received a T-shirt.
The celebration which followed included a climbing wall, trampoline, yoga
demonstrations, Bigger, Faster, Stronger clinic and low ropes course to
teach cooperation.
