Two weekend events are set at fairgrounds

The Alleghany Horseman Association and the Alleghany County 4-H are sponsoring a youth horse show on Saturday, June 29 at 10 a.m. at the Justice Carlisle Higgins Agricultural (Alleghany) Fairgrounds. Gates will open at 8 a.m. and registration is slated to begin at 8:30 a.m.

A total of 38 events will be held for cloverbud (ages eight and under), junior (ages nine to 12) and senior (ages 13 to 18).

Lions Dedication

The Lions Club is planning a dedication ceremony at the concession stand at the Alleghany County Fairgrounds this Sunday, June 30, beginning at 1 p.m.

Live music will begin at 1 p.m. and refreshments (drinks and snacks) will be available. A history of the fairgrounds will be offered. The event is slated to last until 3 p.m.

The Lions are planning to present a plaque dedicating the concession stand to Lions Exton Dosier and Russell Sheets and all of the volunteers who have given of their time to run the stand.

The club is also trying to get a member of the Higgins family, who donated the fairgrounds to the county, to attend the event. The public is invited to attend.
