A probe into the death of a Roanoke, Va. woman at Ice Rock is continuing, said District Ranger Brent Pennington of the Blue Ridge Parkway.
Karen Deans Stoneburner died on May 30 after she apparently fell from the parkway to the bottom of a cliff at Ice Rock, a fall of about 100 feet.
In a new development, Pennington said he has turned the investigation over to the Park Service's law enforcement specialist, John Garrison in Asheville. Garrison could not be reached for comment by presstime Tuesday.
"There are things that need to be looked at and people that need to be talked to before we make any conclusions," he said. "I just didn't have time to complete the investigation the way it needed to be handled."
Stoneburner's husband, 54-year-old Dennis Rae Stoneburner, told Pennington that he and his wife were riding on the parkway when she decided to sketch the scene from Ice Rock. Mrs. Stoneburner enjoyed drawing as a hobby, Pennington noted.
When Mrs. Stoneburner's body was removed from the bottom of the cliff, a clean sketch pad was found.
