With about 100 riders, some as young as three, children were the stars during the Alleghany County Rescue Squad's fourth annual Junior Rodeo last weekend.
The rodeo, held in association with the Blue Ridge Junior Rodeo Association and Alleghany Memorial Hospital, entertained crowds of about 100 and 300, respectively, Friday, June 14 and Saturday, June 15 at the Alleghany County Fairgrounds. Some rain fell shortly before show time Friday, but the weather proved more agreeable the next night.
"It went well," said Janet Hampton, captain of the rescue squad. "Friday night was a little slow, but it picked up some for Saturday."
Above left, Heather Hoover rides into the arena with the North Carolina flag during
the rodeo's opening ceremonies. Hoover also competed in several other events.
