Bob Bamberg, director of the Alleghany County Partnership for Children, resigned his post effective May 30.

Bamberg started at the partnership in November of 1995. The partnership started in this county in 1994 as part of Gov. Jim Hunt's Smart Start initiative to prepare pre-school age children for school.

In a Tuesday telephone interview from Vero Beach, Fla. where he was vacationing, Bamberg said he felt it was time to leave the partnership.

"It was just time for me to move on," he said. "I just have not had the enthusiasm and the energy that I felt the program needed for about the past year.

"I had some other things that I wanted to do and I've been putting them on the back burner and I'm not going to back burner them any longer," he added.

"It takes a certain amount of drive and determination to do what needs to be done to help the children of this county and I hope they find someone who has that drive," Bamberg said. As for his plans after leaving the partnership, Bamberg said he will enter into a semi-retirement.
