RIAA extends deadline for grant applications

The Rural Internet Access Authority is still gathering information for a $13.5 million incentive program and has extended a deadline for grant applications until May 15. The incentives will be distributed by December, 2003.

Those who can apply include non-profit, for-profit, government, health care and educational organizations in rural and urban North Carolina with plans to develop infrastructure or applications to expand high-speed Internet access.

Projects that will be considered for funding include supply building activities, such as plans to begin providing high-speed Internet service in rural areas or to deploy information technology infrastructure, such as new fiber, wireless, cable or satellite networks.

Demand building activities are also covered, including efforts to use high- speed Internet to enhance potential in rural areas.
