A vehicle owned by a suspect in a murder in Watauga County was found in Alleghany County over the weekend. The vehicle, a red 1983 Ford Bronco, was thought to be driven by 29-year-old Christopher Vernon Eakins of Blowing Rock.
Eakins is being sought in connection with the murder of Michael Channing Norris, a 32-year-old Boone resident.
The vacation home where the vehicle was found on Saturday is owned by Eakins' parents, Vernon and Beverly Eakins. No one was at the residence when the vehicle was found. Eakins is still being sought and his whereabouts are not known.
Det. Ricky Lyall said Tuesday that the vehicle was found here but Eakins is not thought to be in the area. The case is being investigated by the Watauga County Sheriff's Department and the State Bureau of Investigation. Anyone with information about Eakins or the vehicle may call the Alleghany County Sheriff's Department at 372-4455.
