Several government offices will close for the Good Friday holiday tomorrow, March 29.
While Good Friday is not a federal holiday, it is observed as a holiday at the state level by North Carolina and at the local level here in Alleghany County.
Post offices across the county will be open and mail will run as on a usual weekday. In addition, most banks will be open.
All county offices will be closed Friday. State offices, such as the clerk of court and employment security commission locations, will also be closed. Town of Sparta offices will be closed as well. Garbage pickup, however, will not change from the regular Friday schedule.
School will be in session on a regular schedule Friday. Alleghany County Schools will observe Easter break, or spring break, next week, with pupils out of school all week — from April 1 through April 5.
The Alleghany News office also will be open Friday.
