Several Bristol Compressors workers will hold on to their jobs for a little bit longer, according to an inter-office memorandum given to employees in Sparta.

The memo, which was dated March 7, states that the plant closing date has been moved up to June 30 of this year for one shift of production workers. "Two shifts will be laid off on March 29 as previously announced," the memo said.

Those selected for the extended work time will be taken on the basis of seniority. "Seniority among those who hold current certifications on each job will be used to determine those asked to stay until June 30," the memo says. According to the memo, certifications for each job were to be validated beginning last week. A team comprised of Tony Price, Jacky Devine, Jason Jones, Shelly Bright and Jim Halsey is coordinating the process.

In addition, employees have the option of taking the layoff rather than working until June 30. "If an employee is eligible to stay but prefers to be laid off, he/she can sign a lay-off request; and we will ask the next senior eligible person."
