By the time it concluded last Saturday, this year's annual WCOK Heart Fund Auction had set a record for fundraising.

Auction Chairman Virginia Setzer said 126 auction items sold for a total of $4,774 last Saturday. In addition, memorials, challenges and other contribution pledges totaled $3,888. That adds up to $8,662 for the day and a two-Saturday total of $15,040.

The $15,040 figure was about $2,000 more than the auction raised last year and represents a record total for the 35th-annual auction, said Setzer. "We thank everybody. We had a super day. We had workers; we worked even through our lunch hour."

The day's top bid item, was a blanket chest made of cherry and cedar, made and donated by Tom Atwood, which sold for $400.

Other notable items auctioned included: Franklin Mint medallion sets, donated by Mr. and Mrs. Wiley McNeil, which sold for $250 and $140, respectively.
