Several file for election

Filing opened Monday at noon for several local offices and the action was brisk for most of the afternoon.

Coupled with the ongoing moving process for the Alleghany County Board of Elections, the filing was even a bit more hectic.

Eight offices are up for election, including three seats on the county commission, three seats on the board of education, the sheriff’s office and the clerk of court.

Commissioners up for re-election are Chair Ken Richardson, Vice Chair Eldon Edwards and Charity Gambill.

Both Gambill and Richardson filed on Monday, but Edwards has been non- committal on filing for office up to this point.

Board of education members up for election include Chairman Charles Joines, Vice Chair David Caldwell and Gary Murphy.

None of the board members who are up for re-election have filed as candidates.

Sheriff Mike Caudill also filed for re-election Monday. Thus far, he is the only candidate for that office.

Clerk of Court Susie Gambill also filed Monday.
