Alleghany High School's test results for the semester just ended showed double-digit gains in the school's performance indicators.

The results showed a performance composite in the percentage of students testing at or above grade level of 85.8 for fall semester 2001, compared to 68.9 for the 2000-01 school year.

The numbers were based on end-of-course test results in algebra I, algebra II, biology, ELP (economic, legal and political systems), geometry, physical science and U.S. history.

School officials were cautiously proud. As Testing Coordinator Frank Busic put it, "It's a real high performance composite....One semester does not a year make, though. They've got a lot of work ahead of them."

Similarly, AHS Principal Jeff Peal commented, "End-of-semester is the key. It's not over "til they sing at the end of May."
