The Alleghany County Board of Commissioners agreed Monday night to hire Ernie Pearson of Sanford Holshouser Law Firm of Raleigh to handle incentive agreement negotiations with Bristol Compressors.

Pearson was the attorney that drafted the incentive agreement that was signed by both the county and the firm. The county has placed $50,000 in a trust account, through which Pearson will be paid at his standard rates of $250 per hour.

Adams said that Pearson will utilize attorneys with lower fees to assist with the negotiations and other legal maneuvers whenever possible. When and if the money is used in the course of the negotiations, Adams said that Pearson has agreed to work at 70 percent of his standard fee for the remainder of the negotiations.

On the other hand, if any of the money remains unused when a settlement is reached, that money would be returned to the county's coffers.
