A company courted by county officials for several weeks will not be coming to Alleghany County as a Blue Ridge Telecenter (BRT) client. BRT board members had tried to woo the Arlington, Va.-based National Rural Electric Cooperatives Association (NRECA) as an "anchor tenant" to occupy space the telecenter had set aside for a customer-service call center.
"We will not be recruiting NRECA into the Blue Ridge Telecenter," County Manager Don Adams announced during the Alleghany County Board of Commissioners meeting Tuesday. He said he learned late last month that NRECA had decided to expand at its existing facility in Lincoln, Neb. instead of acquiring a new location.
The designated space at BRT's permanent location, the former Bassett Walker building, could accommodate 75 or more employees. Officials have said they would continue to market space at BRT to potential clients.
