New cabins prove to be very ‘mobile'

Construction workers in Glade Valley are building a product designed for those who want to savor the rustic appeal of a log cabin, but with considerably more convenience than Abraham Lincoln enjoyed.

Jay and Brian Shaw of Shaw Brothers Construction in Glade Valley and Barry Poole of Deer Creek Golf Park, just over the state line in Grayson County, Va., are partners in New River Cabins.

As Poole explained it, the structures are movable log cabins. They are classified as "park homes," which are required to be no more than 400 square feet.

"A park home can be located anywhere a camper can go. It can be in a floodplain; it can be moved. It makes it easier to be in a log home," said Poole.
